granola, yum

here's my favorite little 'helper.' it's always hard to hold myself back and not give too much instruction when cooking or making something. cooking is something he loves doing so much. granola is such an easy food to make, and it guarantees a big smile at the end. i got this granola recipe from the mothering.com recipe file (cynthia lair's grand slam granola). it's sweetened with maple syrup and butter, yum!

great balls of fire!

or, great balls of energy. a few weeks ago kai started having this crazy jumping, spinning energy. constantly. all day long. i thought maybe the moon, sugar?? but, it's still here. this top picture somewhat captures it. but imagine this picture (jumping up & down, shaking head) pretty much all waking hours. is this a 3 yr old phase? ok, i'm exaggerating a bit he does love to read books so he settles at moments.

snow, said the boy

we got snow! we don't get much snow in these parts of kentucky. but we did get a beautiful fall of flurries the other morning. it was melted by the afternoon. it was enough to take a brief walk, gaze out the window, and read one of our favorite snow books, Snow by Uri Shulevitz. if you've never read it, you should.
the skies are gray. the rooftops are gray. the whole city is gray. then one snowflake. "it's snowing" said boy with dog..... then two snowflakes..."
kai and i are hoping for one big snow fall this year ..... please, oh please.

the tale of the sunglasses

pretty much the pictures say it all. the other reason i love these photos is that zaiah finally discovered our living room window (where they're standing). it's really a bonus spot in our house. this window is the perfect height for any little one, the bottom only being about a foot from the floor and a ledge for little hands to hold on to. during these pictures she stood here for soooo long, very excited about her discovered views. and straight ahead, down the street are the train tracks. oh my, i can hear zaiah already "train, train, choo choo."
