family

it was a family time weekend. nice. the house projects can wait. yes. yesterday morning we went to play by the river. watch the boats. splash through muddy puddles. slide and climb. get dirty. our first trip to this spot by the river since we've been in louisville. i think we'll go back.

kai pie, after

he did not like it.

i kind of thought it was strange he was requesting to make this pie since every fruit pie i've baked lately he didn't care for. though you would think he would be begging for fruit pie all the time. he loves fruit. he loves sugar. he likes nuts. he's obsessed with vitamin c. but throw everything together, and after a bite .... he's done!
i thought it was mighty tasty, especially with a big dallop of plain yogurt on the side and a drizzle of honey. yum.

kai pie

earlier this week kai started composing his own pie recipe. as he was telling me the ingredients, i wrote them down and told him we would bake it during the weekend. so here you have it, kai's first home-made pie with ingredients he came up with all on his own.

can you guess what the secret ingredient is?:

kai pie

mix in a big bowl in this order:
1 plum
2 peaches
1 mango
1 vitamin c (sanz one bite)
a little bit of maple syrup
3 cashews
4 pinches of sliced almonds
(although not in his original recipe, we added strawberries to have enough filling)

pour into a pie shell. sprinkle extra cashews and almonds on top! bake 1 hr.

tadaa....

big mack

conversation with kai in car this morning:

after long silence ....
"mommy, when i get taller i want to drive a mack truck. but zaiah can't come because there are no car seats in mack trucks. so she would stay home with daddy"

"ohh. where would you drive it?"

"to claremont street" (the street in our neighborhood where his friends live)

"to show your friends??"

"yeah, and to give them a ride."

"where would you all go?"

"to the grocery store."

"to buy what?"

"snack! lots of snacks! some cookies.... and stuff to make quesadillas, bagels, yogurt, crabs (of course), and pomegranate juice."

"sounds yummy. would you pick me up some peaches and bananas. and a big coffee?"

"sure. i know you like coffee alot!"

a couple of you have mentioned you couldn't leave a comment. we just went into the settings mode and changed it, so you should be able to. feel free to comment :). it's nice to know someone out there is reading.

also, answers to other questions you may have asked me in the past:

why are there never pictures of me? well, i don't really like photos of me. but mostly because i'm always the one taking photos. so you have to get on andy about this one.

why was the previous header picture of two cooked eggs? so strange!?
it was actually twin yokes in one egg from a batch of free range eggs we had. very exciting in this house-hold. now everytime kai helps crack eggs, he eagerly waits hoping hoping hoping for twins again.... "this is a big one, maybe this one has two mommy!"

helper

this summer i've hired a neighborhood girl. once a week this 10 yr. old comes to our house for 2 hrs to play with and watch my kiddos. this gives me some time to work around the house, and to have an 'emotional' break from parenthood. this hire might be the wisest thing i've done in a while. no, they don't completely disappear. occasionally zaiah comes chasing after me for milk, milk milk (as her two hands wave in the air symboling the nursing sign), kai plays messenger boy for me and rowan, or i get to change the poopy diaper. but, kai is having a blast with his new friend, and is sad each time she rides off.

hello summer, good-bye spring

spring is such a teaser. really, does it ever last long enough to enjoy? oregon weather, i miss you already. it's 90's and humid here in kentucky and it's not even solstice yet. sticky, messy, dirty ... oh, i'm talking about my kids. along with new found allergies, we're settling back in. yep. zaiah, only 1 years old has developed the famous louisville allergies. i think after being here for 3.5 yrs. all of us now have some sort of allergy attack. no fun. breath well, i hope you are.

i share with you a few photos from our oregon trip:
